About Gene Hearl's Devriendts

Gene
Hearl's Devriendts are still winning after 45 years, with the most
recent win in the 2004 Triple Crown Classic. Pigeons have been a
lifelong passion for Gene. From the age of six, until he was nineteen
and drafted in the Army, Gene bred fancy pigeons at his family home.
After the Army, he married and then began racing pigeons as early
as 1959. In 1960, he began acquiring the Devriendt family of birds.
Within the first five years, he imported close to 30 birds with
the help of Paul Vegate (Frazer Michigan), Larry Nelson (Long Island,
NY - now Florida) and Herman Winkleman (Smithtown, NY).
Over
the past 45 years the bloodline has been pure. This line has been
winning clubs, combines and futurity races of all distances, including

Gene
Hearl's Devriendts have stocked some of the best lofts in USA! In
1984 he sold to Camble Strange (Oakhaven Farms, Dallas Ft. Worth,
TX) the Devriendt hens that became the mothers of his Lodi Bloodline,
and Mr. & Mrs. Magoo bloodlines. In 1971 Gene's was the first
loft ever to win average speed in both combines, Long Island, NY
with 170 lofts and 120 lofts.

In
1991 Gene moved to San Diego (La Mesa) California. Since relocating
to California his birds are still winning coast to coast.
In San Diego, the birds are still producing and winning in one loft
races.
